House Renovation at Lake Chiemsee: How Atelier Yay Built an Interior Around a Chrome Slide
(Translated version)
The renovation of this house at Lake Chiemsee combines Bavarian down-to-earthness with an Australian zest for life. For interior designer Julia Stöckert, it all started with a chrome water slide.
This project impressively demonstrates how an extremely unusual client request—a chrome water slide in the middle of the house—can become the central design element for an entire living concept.
Key Aspects of the Design Concept;
- The Anchor of the Design: Instead of hiding the unusual object, Julia Stöckert (Atelier Yay) made the chrome slide the visual and functional heart of the house.
- Crossover of Styles: The architecture combines the traditional, grounded design language of the Bavarian Prealpine region at Lake Chiemsee with an open, sunny, and unconventional lifestyle influenced by Australian touches.
- Material & Light: The cool, reflective chrome of the slide is balanced by warm natural materials such as wood, tactile textiles, and soft earth tones to create a cozy living atmosphere despite the futuristic touch.
